The 943-J generator was sold and it has been archived by eBay. Here is the link to the auction for the generator:

AHA!
IF I decide to buy the other one (if nobody else does) I think I'll be better off anyway.
The commutator looks REALLY worn.
I wouldn't mind making a buck for a change....... crazy

Other one? You have been talking about several generators. Which "other one" are you referring to?

As stated by Chipper above, the $27.50 generator is the wrong generator for your car.

It might be wrong but would probably work but I'm not going to buy it.
I have spent enough money already and need to catch up.
At any rate this is the reply I got from the ebay vendor from whom I bought the rebuilt generator:

Craig, we definitely understand your dilemma. These old starters and generators are hard to identify especially when someone has put a different one in the vehicle. We see that you have purchased the generator, and it is shipping out this morning. If for any reason it doesn't work for you, or doesn't fit etc, you are welcome to return it. We are in the process of moving a lot of parts around right now, and will be handling more generators. We will keep an eye out for a 643-J for you. Hopefully the one you bought from us will work for you. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask, and we try and answer them to the best of our knowledge.

I'll have the generator tomorrow but we have a wedding reception to attend late afternoon....... bananadead
For the heck of it I shorted across the cutout which had no effect.

If your post is correct you may want to advise them you need a 943-J generator and not a 643-J.

I'm not a correctness freak when it comes to things like this.
I want a generator that works.......period.
I'll do what I have to do to the bracket.......that part is peanuts.

I was not advising regarding correctness but I don't even know if there is such a model as 643-J so it could be a challenge to find something that does not exist.

I totally know what you mean....... wink
They exist........$omewhere.......but I can't continue driving the car with a "stuck" generator or I'll ruin a brand new battery that costs half as much as the generator that should arrive tomorrow....... yay
There will be no driving this weekend though.
The weather forecast sucks but I want to put some miles on this thing while I can.

The rebuilt generator that you purchased from the eBay seller is a 943-J as they stated in their item description. The generator that you need for your 1932 is a 943-J generator so you purchased the correct generator for your car from the eBay seller. No need to have the seller look for a 643-J generator that doesn't exist since you now have the correct 943-J generator for your 1932.

Thanks Junk....... laugh
I've looked at so many numbers and generators lately my head has been spinning...... willy
Unfortunately it did not arrive today.
The weather sucks anyway and with the wedding reception I'm pretty well screwed today but tomorrow I'm going to patch in a separate new wire from the gas tank sender to the gauge and see what's what.
IF that is the trouble I think I'll have things pretty well sorted........until the next thing shows up....... doh
Regardless of the difficulties thus far I'm still a VERY lucky man to even own this car.......and a large part of having these things is having something to putter with....... wink

The generator arrived today so it was off to the races shortening the mounting bracket but, as mentioned before, that was peanuts.
When I removed the band to adjust the 3rd brush it was clear this was, indeed, a proper rebuild and my generator problem is over....... bana2

While I was on a roll getting this done and little project on my '24 Dodge I thought I'd take a crack at troubleshooting the gas gauge issue.
I noticed a bare section of wire at the rear so cut the wire off, as it's going to need replacing anyway, and patched in a new wire between the sender and gauge and........nothing.
Less than nothing actually so, goody goody, now I get to drop the tank and replace the sender....... freak

The latest development was the left rear brake grabbing and sticking....... curse
I checked the book and adjusted the adjuster thingy bolt to just where the wheel wouldn't drag and it got worse.
I backed it up some more and it got even MORE worse to the point the tire would lock up and skid and I had to back up slightly to get it to release.
I yanked the hub again to see WTH is going on to no avail so back to the book: "adjust until there is a slight drag on the drum".
Now WHY anyone would want dragging brake shoes is beyond me but I followed the book.
That did the trick.
Good grief that setting is fussy....... willy
At least that's one more thing out of the way.

Before condemning the sending unit, be sure it's grounded either through the tank or directly to the frame.

I did......no soap.
I've been through this scenario with two other cars.

Regarding the brakes, last night I called a friend in Minnesota just to talk and we got on the brake thing.
It turned out he, too, had recently experienced the exact thing with his Model A and the fix was identical.

I got my new fuel tank sender from The Filling Station a couple days ago.
I patched it in and nothing....... stressed
Dummy me had the wrong wire connected to the wrong terminal on the back of the gauge....... stupid
The end of the story is it works perfectly.

Since it was a very rainy day but in the 60's I decided it would be a good day to drop the gas tank and address the gas gauge issue.
It sure is nice working on a low miles car as the gas tank strap nuts came right off!
Some days I cannot lay on my back to work on things without getting dizzy or nauseated......thankfully today was a good day.
The hardest part was keeping the passenger side tank strap "stuck" in its notch.
I thought I had it but had to drop that side of the tank again to get it in place.
All in all I've done far worse things so one more issue is behind me.
I now have everything I need to install turn signals and brake lights but that's for another day.......or two.
