Were the roof moldings on a '30 Coupe like the belt molding? Like a half moon shape if you were looking at a end view. All of the roof material and moldings were missing when I got my car so any help would be great.Also, who has the best roof kits? Thanks in advance! Stan

If you are talking about the one piece moulding that goes down both sides of the roof behind the doors and then around the lower back of the roof line then yes, the roof moulding was "half-moon" shaped when you look at it from the end. And, the moulding is held in place with nails. "Roof kits"? Can you be more specific? :)  :grin:

I don't know of anyone that has a duplicate of the top material. Hampton Coach supplies their version of the material and padding. However, I purchase mine from Model A suppliers like Snyders in Ohio. Much cheaper and likely the same stuff.

Snyder are nice people, and have some very useful and identical parts to our 490ties. Still, when I made a complaint after a break down of a brand new pinion I bought there, I got into some trouble. They told they sold their parts "only" for use with Ford cars, so "Sorry, no guarantee in combination with Chevrolets. They had no trouble with the pinions and T-Ford planet gears. After some thought and checking the stock, they accepted to sell me a new pinion, and not the full set. And both were happy.

Hey Dawg,I'm talking about the molding that goes around the top material. I think Chipper has me figured out. I'm not sure what I need because I've never seen another '30 Coupe. I know you're thinking I need to get out more often. Chipper, Thanks for the information! Stan

Ya just gotta be more specific! The roof crown moulding (that's what ya call it) is available from "Bob's Automobilia" in California. It is a by-fold moulding. I purchased some for my '30 coupe and it is dead on! :)

JYD, Is that "roof crown moulding" you say worked dead on on your '30 coupe. Also correct for '29 coaches? If so do you have a website address or phone number for "Bob's Automobilia"?

Isn't the Internet great? Just went to "Google" and typed in "Bob's Automobilia" and up came his web site. Go here: http://bobsautomobilia.com/Bob sells Buick reproduction parts, however, his roof crown moulding for the 1930 Buick is the same moulding for the 1930 Chevrolet also. The moulding was identical to mine (should be the same for 1929), however the mouldings come in long strips and the problem is you have to make a jig to bend the mouldings to fit the rear corners of the roof. And, since the mouldings are by-fold, they have to be bent in the open position. :( :cry:

Since I am away from my references this is a risky answer. I seem to remember that the '29 top mouldiing is not the same as the '30 - '31. I will be home in a few days to double check.

The Chevrolet roof crown moulding for 1930 is not the same as 1929. However, the Buick mouldings that Bob's Automobilia sells is for 1929-31, which will be the same moulding as used on a 1930 Chevrolet if ordered for a 1929 Chevrolet. :)  :grin:

A metal jig cut to the configuration of the proper radius was used, along with heat. Don't try this yourself.....get a professional to do it or you will ruin the mouldings.

A piece of plywood and a couple of boards make a good jig to bend the '30-'31 style roof moldings. Cut the radius matching the top opening and extend it a little past the 90 degrees needed as the molding will come back after being bent. Clamp the plywood to a table or larger piece of plywood. Mark the location on the start of the bend and then using boards and clamps secure the molding in place so it can not move up or out away from the jig. Place the side closest to the piece to be folded down against the jig. Slowly bend the molding around the jig. You may need to use a few clamps to hold it in place as you bend it. You will find that the verticle center bead will move down as you make the bend. It is ok as long as it does not close completely. Once the bend is completed and the molding nailed in place then tap the center bead down starting at the corner. Use a block of wood and go slow and work it down a bit at a time. It will result in a good job with not lumps or bumps if you are careful.

Stan: Keep in mind that the roof crown moulding for your 1930 coupe is a bi-fold type (as mentioned in Chipper Whipper's posting above) which makes it more difficult to bend around the radius of the top so be careful when bending.

dog and chipper you did not explain how to bend the front piece ?the back is easy as you can do some bending or tweeking on the car as you nail it .
