Is it worth putting Ray and Kepi and who knows who through the hassles they went thru earlier??
Can't we still "chat" regardless of whether there's a Non-geo region for us or not??
The board didn't seem to see/understand the need previously. What's to make anybody think they would see a "need" for a Non-geo chat chapter now??
Just wondering.....
Bill.

I'd bet that Ray and Kepi just sit back and watch this time.
After all those guys put into the last round......I'd just work on my Chevy and say good luck to the rest of you.
I still think it's a great idea, but some folks just don't think the time is right. Maybe when Chat members outnumber VCCA members somebody will wake up.

To look someone up in the club directory (the 2006 VCCA Membership Roster) you have to know their real name and what state they live in to find them in the directory. FYI JYD, with a member's VCCA number you can look up anyone's name and address and what they own in the club 2006 roster (rare exceptions), and if you know their state you can find that information even quicker. And if they have said what cars they own here on Chatter it is even quicker yet. I believe all of this needed information is right there already on Chatter. Also we list in the G&D the names and addresses of all new members (no cars) and also the names and addresses of all of the TAs. I don't think a thief would really care what your handle on Chat might be, that information would not needed by him, he has all he would need. However, the point of this discussion was that the roster and some other stuff are a security risk whereas the lists that started this string are not.So if someone is really worried about security I think there are other places we need to look at (& maybe we should) instead of a couple of people making snide comments and trying to question my honestly or morals or the reasons behind the idea of these 'lists', (these comments by the way are against the rules here). I know for a fact these types of comments would not be made to another club member's face at a local VCCA club meeting; only here on the internet far away from their fellow club member, IMHO. This "tear down a member" behavior does not help anyone or the club or Chatter, IMHO.

...with a member's VCCA number you can look up anyone's name and address and what they own in the club 2006 roster I guess that your 2006 roster must be totally different than mine. In my roster the only way you can look up a VCCA member is to know his state and his name. Once that is found, his VCCA number and address are there. That is the point I was trying to clarify from your previous statement. Sure, you can probably find a dude's name by his VCCA number if you want to wade through the 2006 roster page by page looking up VCCA numbers one number at a time. :)

I getting close to shuting this discussion down. It started out with a normal, and common topic, but it's become a little personal with some of the comments. And the irony is that this is a good topic that needs to be discussed. After all, the "threat" of exposing all members personal data (eg. address and car ownership) was one of the issues that was mentioned as a major concern if the club began using a "membership database". Naturally this data would still be as "private" as it is today, but it would have just been more available for members themselves, to update or modify. So these kinds of false accusations need to be discussed and shown to be false. You may notice that the "only" piece of personal information that we ask for when you register on CHAT is your "Location". And then we don't even validate the information nor edit it in any way. If you want to put accurate information in there, then that's your choice. It just MIGHT allow someone who lives near you to make contact with you. If you don't want to enter correct data there, then that's your perogative too. In the end, probably more people DON'T want to expose their "personal" data to the internet, then want to. So this process is never going to be very complete nor accurate. I think that belonging to a local Region is the best solution to findng people near you with common interests. But if you are 200 miles from the nearest Region (or even further away) then that's going to be tough. Some things we just can't solve. Maybe a non-geographic region is a possbile solution... maybe not.. but it's probably worth a try. So, as I step off MY soapbox, how come today on eBay a guy who lives 6 miles from me just advertised for a '31 tranny? And I never knew he lived in the area? I thought that I knew every 1931 Chev within 1,000 miles of here!!! Just goes to show you that even the power of the internet and VCCA regions can't make the world a smaller place. Guess that we'll just have to find a different way.

Maybe BB actually does know about all the 31 Chevys within a 1000 miles of him. Maybe the guy advertising for a transmission just got his 31 Chevy recently. Now BB knows about it. And all the others within a 1000 miles.
As for the thread; the irony of it to me is the guy who wants to gather ownership info, location info and so on, has a profile that lists a "make believe" location, a set of askterisks for a VCCA number and NO info about what cars he owns.
Is that a repeat?? Oh sorry, maybe I got confused with the repeat situation in one-liners.....
Bill.

"Scratch your eye's out....Hit you with my purse! Miow!! I think we all know who Louis C is or was, & we all know why his details are as they are. There was a very personal attack on him on this site & he threw his rattle out the pram, the same as I did when the same thing happened to me. He may be the biggest pain in the butt for all I know & if I met him But for me he brings up some good topics to this site & some good information. As I've said in the past Even if you don't like someone you should at least respect them. About every 3 months a personal attack appears on this site against some one, if you don't agree say so but don't do an assassination on them. I may not be anyones favorite person, well tough, I respect that opinion but I am who I am & I ain't changing. So lets all agree & disagree but let's all enjoy the benefits of the site & keep personalities out of it.

Banjo Bill, in my opinion if this thread is closed then we should remove Discussions - All Members from the site.
IMHO.. This thread started as a genuine request / idea... Not some scallywag looking for information to steal cars!

Yeah Kepi, we didn't even lose the first round, the referee just called a low blow, about when we had a knockout punch all wound up! We will get the ref. a new pair of reading glasses so he can read The Robert's Rules of Order....Maybe we should post the web site where the Roberts Rules of Order are posted? what do you think? As to personal attacks That is like the poor, you will always have those 10 percenters that have something stuck in their craw, or want to give someone a spelling lesson.... just ignore them!

42Bill wrote As for the thread; the irony of it to me is the guy who wants to gather ownership info, location info and so on, has a profile that lists a "make believe" location, a set of askterisks for a VCCA number and NO info about what cars he owns. DITTO! Bill I could not have said it any better, Thank-you. Some how this entire point was lost, that the information he is looking to compile he fails to supply himself. Rather than agreeing that this is an oversight on his behalf, he feels he is being picked on.....! I do agree with one of Louis C's comments, in person I do speak differently, but I clean it up for the site and try to be polite, but to qoute a line form one of my favorite movies "Pulp Fiction" (last scene in the resturant with Samuel Jackson and Ringo) "I am trying to be the Shepard but it is getting real hard,....... real hard" As far as regions being far away there is nothing we can do about it. Yesterday I traveled 200 miles each way to visit a powder coating shop in CT with the Southern New England Region. It all depends how hard you want to play. If the region is 200 miles away and if you are looking for contact pay the dues and read the newsletter, I am sure that there is something that could be gained. I know the responce is coming as to why that can't be done for some reason or another. Many of us here know each other from other club activities in the past. Others could be in an insane asylum or in a prison for all we know leading some sort of fantasy life on the internet. John

John,Just because you live close enough to attend club activites does not mean anything.I get the feeling that even if someone went out of the way to attend one of these functions you still would not give them a chance just because you don't know them.

At times, I'm no angel, BUT I have to agree with Bill Barker about shutting this thread down..........it's just not good for CHAT or VCCA the way its going right now.
I'm done.

Well, let's see if we can turn it around. In my region (Puget Sound - Seattle, Washington) we have a member who just renewed last week and he now lives in GEORGIA!!! We also have had a long-standing member for the past 10 or 15 years who lives in CHICAGO!!! When I moved my family a few years ago (not knowing when, or if, we would ever come back) I kept up my membership current for four years while we lived in VIRGINIA. These are all good examples of how "friendship" within a region is a stronger bond than distance. My guess is that if someone made the effort to attend a regional meeting which is a long ways from their house, that they might be surprised at how quickly they bond with some members who have common interests!! Naturally, it helps if you give the people some advance notice that you're coming from that distance. After this past summer's meet in Colorado, I'm almost tempted to join the NORWAY region just becasue of the comraderie that I felt and because I experienced how forward-thinking they are in running their club. I'm still thinking about that. Call me nuts, but it's fun to be associated with great people.... So... now who's being a "shepard"? ha ha... John I kept laughing about this all the way through the Seahawks miserable loss. Thanks again for the mental image!!! --Bill

Well' "Step aside Butch" ..... good job,(I wish I had hair to slick back)and don't get me started about pork! Too bad for the Seahawks, tough to loose in OT to bad the NFL is driven by Vegas and will not go to NCCA OT, but then all of the over and under action would go out the window. John

Yeah, I really feel sorry for those guys that only have a half hour drive to make club meetings, it is hardly worth getting all gussied up for that, We have more fun by Driving 150 miles on Saturday afternoon once a month, going to a BOD at one of the LSR members house, eating a meal with our friends, having a business meeting, then going over to one of our fellow members house, visiting and staying overnight, enjoying a nice home cooked breakfast, visiting some more then going to the monthly club meeting, then 25 or 30 of us drive out to a resturant, and have a nice dinner, say our goodbyes and then drive back home 150 miles, it really makes our weekend! Thanks guys!
Try it you may like it!!!! We may give up our fatty foods, our hours before the TV, our hoeing the garden, runing foot races, cutting firewood.... BUT we ain't going to give up our club meetings or our good friends, that are like family as long as we can drive!

And I still belong to a Region in Florida, 1,000 miles away. And one in New Jersey, because they know how to have a good time. And we even make it to some of their functions, it's only 450 miles.
But hey, BBB - if you really want to get John going, start quoting "Goodfellas." Now THAT's a movie, and Johnny knows the lines by heart! Maybe I know a few, too...
"Sorry, he couldn't make it. Something came up..."
Now me, I'm a sucker for "Kill Bill" (1 and 2). Or maybe it's just Uma Thurman.

"Sorry, he couldn't make it. Something came up..." Correction on that one,if it is the same scene I am thinking of, I think you are referring to the diner scene where Jim Conway (Dinero)is making a phone call to see how Tommy (Joe Pesche) being a made man is going "It just didn't work out...... things happened..... Tommy's gone, .....and it just didn't work out.........ya know..... things.....Tommy's gone and there is nothing you can do about it, NOTHING! It wasn't us..... Now to bring this thread back on track, from the same movie, When the truck is hijacked outside of the airport, they take the wallet of the truck driver, for his license, he asks why just the license, they reply "We now know you but...... you don't us, you know what I mean? This is to help you remember to forget what we look like when the cops start asking... because someone will find ya" I guess this puts us back on track John "I am trying real hard,..... real hard"
