When I took the front fenders off my '39, I noticed that the welt that runs between the fender and cab was held onto the fender with paper clips that pinched it onto the flange on the fender. A pretty ingenious idea for mounting, but was this factory engineering?

Maybe someone took the fenders off and couldnt get the welt to stay in place when he put it back on and used paper clips?

Bob: I think you 'nailed' it with "pretty ingenious idea." I'd surely rely on Gene's evaluation, however, regarding "factory engineering."
I hope you find out how to and then do it correctly when you're putting it back together. (It's a cinch I don't know.) :( Bill.

Its easy, just clip the welt to the flange on the fender like you were paper clipping two pieces of paper together. Thanks, Bob

Bob... Here is a picture of the application of welting on my 40 coupe. I used 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive and a jillion spring clamps. I think your paper clip idea sounds easier. ![[Linked Image from rdgsons.com]](http://www.rdgsons.com/sp/welt.jpg)
