I am in the Metro Atlanta area. Does anyone know of a machine shop that pours bearings down here? I found a couple of shops in Ohio and California, just trying to find one in driving distance. 1 day turn around.

Our VCCA region visited Hood's Garage in Austell, GA in 2016. At that time they were doing babbitting. They did a lot of early Fords but said they can do Chevrolets. Hopefully they are still around and doing them.
Good Luck

I will check them out today, and and get back to the forum.
Thank you Mitch

Do they do the babbiting and line boring? Or can they re-pour the cups and size them to spec without them in the block?

I gave them a quick phone call, they said the do 2-3 babbit pouring's a week. Looking pretty optimistic, I am hoping to get the motor down there in 2 weeks. I have a pretty stuck cam shaft, I believe it is rusted behind the cam gear. Once I get it out i will take it down.

Any estimates on pricing for main bearings?

I had mine done a few years ago in my '25 sedan. $3,000 for rods, mains and align bored. Sounds like a lot but try and find someone who knows how to do it. What ever you do; don't let them use lead in the babbitt.

I believe Chevrolet used to actually advertise that they used a "high lead babbit" as a selling point. At least they did so in the 1940's. How high? I have no idea.
I think there were a couple of reasons for this.
One is that lead gives the babbit "embeddability'. This was so any grit in the oil would embed in the babbit rather than score the shaft.
Another was that lead in the babbit increases the degree to which the bearing is "self lubricating". Again, this lessens the likelihood of a scored bearing journal with sub optimal lubrication. Tin will also accomplish this.
Cost was undoubtedly a factor as well.
I don't claim to be an expert on babbit, but I think you must be careful not to get the babbit too hard in old engines.
