OP WSP530 Shade Tree Mechanic Joined: Aug 2017 Posts: 59 Wis	1998 GMC Suburban 2500 with7.4. The starter made a bad grinding sound , never made that sound before,after a 3rd start it quit. I pulled the starter and discovered the tail end was broke off, the case was also cracked. There were no shims, the starter was a remanufactured ac delco. Most have a couple shims ,could this have been the problem? 1917 490, 1928 Depot Hack, 1925 Buick roadster, 1978 Vette pace car, 2002 Z06
