Can someone with a mathematical and automotive background help me with my question ? # What would be a one tooth difference 1 more or 1 less on a speedometer driven gear ? 1. miles per hour 2. revolutions per minute or percentages All opinions are welcome and are appreciated , Thank You P.K.

We used to figure about 2-3 mph for 1 tooth on the driven gear

Won't the reading will go as the drive ratio, or the ratio of the two numbers of teeth on the driven gear? If n is the number of teeth you have, adding a tooth will make you read slower and the reading will be n/(n+1). With one fewer, you should read n/(n-1), faster, since n/(n-1) is greater than n/n. I think. The mph changes as the ratio of numbers of teeth, so it can't be a constant number, otherwise you'd see 2mph when stopped, or -2mph, hoho. As you get up around 100mph, the difference will become substantial, but if it's a '28 Chevy you'l have other things to worry about. Wilson
