I have the dubbonet independent front suspension on my 36 coupe. I poured oil in both of them and of course they are leaking. I purchased a seal kit and I think I'm ready to tackle this thing. Has anyone had the experience of doing this? It seems pretty gnarly but doable. I'm only planning to do bare minimum and only replace the seals. Nothing seems worn or abused.

I do not know what is in a seal kit and the kt should come with instructions. Most need more than just va seal and are just plain worn out from being driven wtih no fluid.

That's another awesome write up! Love the pictures

Does anyone know where I can source some length of some graphite rope seal?

I have 2 sets of rope seals for main bearings but I dont think they are long enough. And they might be too fat

I would think that nylon rope seal for faucets could be used as well.

The rear main seal would be too thick. I used rope and twisted it in and compressed it with the packing nut several times. Get as much stuffed in by doing this.

What is the best method for removing the huge cap on top?

Ive made myself a tool with a socket to put on a breaker bar, and i can't get that thing to budge AT ALL. Ive torched the sides to try and get it to loosen up but no luck. (I've already pulled out the two front springs)

Make sure the weight is off the knee by jacking the front end up and try using a good penetrating oil for a day or so. Sounds like the threads might be rusted.
