Never seen an electric pump inside the vacuum canister but have seen several modifications to allow use of a remote pump. Many that have tried an electric pump have had problems with too high fuel pressure or inconsistent performance with a regulator.

Most success has been with it on a switch on the dash and use it only to fill the vacuum tank.

Better yet, get the vacuum tank repaired. When repaired they work very well as intended. Electric pumps are a pain in the aXX.

I agree that a good repaired vacuum tank is hard to beat. Far, far better than an electric with regulator! As long as the operator remembers that pushing down the accelerator pedal reduces vacuum and therefore amount of fuel being pumped all is good. Many of us have driven vacuum tank Chevys to the top of Pikes Peak or other high mountain roads without a problem. A few years back the VCCA Four Cylinder tour went over Teton Pass extended 10% grade. Only the gravity fed 490 had to back up to keep the fuel level in the tank above the carburetor.

Rip. look in the back pages of the G&D and you might find someone who rebuilds them.
