The replacements are for a later 216. They'll work on your '38 IF you put later lifters in the engine too. I see original pushrods on ebay from time to time. If it's not bent badly just straighten it. No more pressure than the stock 216 valve springs exert, a straightened pushrod should work just fine. I've done that on mine. Sounds like someone ran the engine with old gas in it & stuck a valve(s). I've never done that.......(see photo)

A word of warning. Be sure to pull the head and thoroughly clean every valve stem and guide if it was a stuck valve before trying to start the engine again. Also pull the tank and clean it out. If you don't it'll happen again.
