Am I correct that the No.1 wire can be anywhere the distributor rotor has stopped (any of the 4 polls), as long as you hook the No.1 wire to that location and that you are at TDC (Compression) on No.1 cylinder?????

Yes, but you also want the cap clips to be orientated so that you can easily open and close them.
