Actually, the 73 and '74 Nova share the same body parts. The 68-72 look similar and share the same X-body name, but all actual parts are different. For example, '73 was also the first year for the 5 mph bumpers, which requires different fenders and quarters. The doors can interchange, but you must make modifications to mount the vent windows if desired. The '73 & '74 hood look the same except for the front lip on the '73 & '74 has a shorter front lip where the trim piece goes on.

Chris, Nice to hear from you again! I thought that the information provided earlier was incorrect.... but far-be-it-from-me to question a National Board Member of the VCCA. John

Chris is right. The '73 and '74 nova doors fit on the previous year but they do not have the vent pane windows of the '68-72. Some part do interchange but I would stick to the two years Jim. Why do you ask? What's up?

Guys I would just like to clarify myself as far as the information I provided, it was based on Standard Catalog of Chevrolet 1912-1998 printed by Krause, edited by Ron Kowalke. When Jim posted the question I was thumbing through the book looking up something else. The book stated that the 1975 lineup was the first major body change in 8 years. I did not think Jim was looking for specific part interchanges with his question. I look at these year Novas as a platform similar to the Corvairs 1960-1964, as in that case the 1960 is a stand alone unit, but yet is still considered to be on the same platform as the other years. They also I have learned have very little parts interchanges. My mistake and my error for offering printed information that I presumed to be correct. John

I should have been more to the point. I should have asked about the padded dash and the instrument panel. I have an instrument panel with a tachometer in it. Probably from a SS. Jim

Jim
The tach dash was used on a car with the optional gauge package. In 1972, this option was available on any V-8 powered Nova. If my memory is correct, the tach dash does not have a gas gauge in it. The gas gauge was in the console gauges. FYI - the later model Nova's (75-78 I think)with the gauge package used an volt gauge rather than the amp gauge. I found this out when I purchased the wrong unit.
Take Care,
Chris
