I noticed that I have a weak leaf spring in the back on the drivers side of my Roadster. The drivers side is lower in the back than the passenger side. Not to mention the rear looks kind of low in the back overall.
I think I read on Bill Barker's "1931Chevrolet.com" website that different models had different leaf spring setups. For example, Roadsters had 5 leaf leaf springs, coupes had 6 and sedans had 7.
Can anyone confirm this? I would like to correct my weak rear...lol!

My 1935 parts book shows 6 leaves for the roadster and there is no 5 leaf listed.

Check your 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book. It has the number of spring leafs listed for each model of vehicle.

Not a problem. You can get a reprint of the 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book from the Filling Station in Lebanon, Oregon. www.fillingstation.com

The 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book shows that both the 1931 Sport Roadster and the Roadster had 7 leaf rear springs. The parts book also indicates that the Roadster for 1931 used 6 leaf rear springs as well. The 1929-31 Chevrolet parts book shows the same, so apparently both 6 and 7 leaf springs were used on the 1931 standard Roadster.

If the roadster was available with and without a rumble seat the number of leaves could make a difference.

The standard roadster had a trunk and the sport roadster had a rumble seat.

Then it is possible that the rumble seat model had more leaves in the springs.

The rumble seat model used 7 leaf rear springs because of the two extra passengers.

This is what I found on my car. I have 7 leaves in my leaf springs. But I still have a weak spring on the drivers side. I guess I will have to keep my eyes open for a 7 spring matched pair.

There are spring companies that can manufacture new individual leafs and/or complete spring assemblies. Here is one example: http://www.eatondetroitspring.com/
