I remember someone asking how to remove the emblem, but I couldn't find the thread. Could someone refresh me on how to do this.
Thanks

The emblem presses out from the back of the radiator shell.

You can pop it out with a socket the same size and rubber hammer.

Thanks, it came out fine. I'll be sending the shell out for chrome plating. I'm not sure if they will want the steel spreader removed from the bottom before plating. I like the look of the rivets being plated so I am wondering if it can be done without disassembling.

When I had my radiator shell rechromed they wanted the bottom support brace removed...which made for a much better plating job. When I received the radiator shell back I reinstalled the support brace with stainless steel rivet head screws.

That makes sense. They don't want to bother with dissimilar metals.

I use stainless steel rivets similar to the original ones. Takes a air hammer, rivet setting tools and patience but produces an assembly looking like the original.

The stainless steel rivet head screws that I used are identical to the original rivets in appearance. Don't have to use an air hammer or a rivet setting tool and it only takes a couple of minutes to attach the support brace to the radiator shell. And, best of all....there is no risk of damaging the radiator shell with the new chrome plating by using real rivets.

Yes the rivet head screws look the same from the outside but not even close on the other side. Same on the hood handles and hooks that attach to the hood sides. As they say close but no cigar.

The male rivet head screws on the inside of the radiator shell support bracket are in a place where they will probably not be seen. I would much rather use those at that location instead of pounding on a very expensive, freshly chromed radiator shell to put in real rivets. Too much chance of possibly denting the shell or cracking the new plating.

I agree on the hood handles and hooks and I would not use the rivet head screws in those locations, but in a place like the radiator shell support bracket where they won't be seen is a different story.
