Ciao.
I'm sorry for my bad english but I'm Italian.
I've got a Chevrolet AC of 1929 and I'm restoring it.
I'd like to know the spark plug's size and temperature.
My chevy's spark plug is 18 mm diameter and 13 mm long but cilinder's hole is 19 mm long.
Are my spark plug too short?
I hope I've been clear.
Thanks for the answers and saluti dall'Italia.

Welcome to Chevy Chatter!

The correct modern spark plugs for your 1929 are AC-C87. The plugs are 18MM.

The 13 MM sounds about right. I have C86 plugs in my 32 and that is 12.87 MM .

Hi!
Thank you all.
Ok 18 mm diameter.
But I did not undestend if there are problems putting a spark plug 12,7 mm long, in a cilinder hole 20 mm long.
Thanks again.
In Italy there is nobody to ask for it.

If you use the correct AC spark plugs that are listed above for your 1929 cylinder head you won't have a problem regarding the spark plug hole depth.

I unscrewed old spark plugs.
The second and the third are blighted.
The others are ok.
It is possible that the cylinder head gasket is burned?

I have a picture on my PC but I can not put it on post

Ciao Alfredo --

Tutti i migliori,

Chip

Hello Alfredo --

You should make some additional tests. The most important one is to test the compression pressure of each cylinder using the special test gauge. If cylinders number two and three have significantly lower compression pressure than the other cylinders, the most likely causes are:

-- Badly worn or burned intake or exhaust valves in the cylinders with low compression pressure, or
-- failed head gasket in the cylinders with low compression pressure.
-- Damaged pistons or rings in the cylinders with low compression pressure.

If all cylinders have nearly the same compression pressure, then there may be some other reasons -- but you should try the compression check first. You can buy the compression tester via the internet or in the stores that sell car parts in Italy.

Good luck with finding your problem. We will try to help you if we can.

All the Best,

Chip

Thank you.
I'll try test the compression pressure of each cylinder.

Hi!
I've finally loaded the spark plugs' photos.
We can see these corroded spark plugs' photos
1) Dirty spark plug's photo (just demonted)

2) Photo of the spark plugs just cleaned (the second and the third spark plug are corroded)

3) Photo of the corroded clean spark plug after having driven for 5 minutes with full load engine.

In the first and second photo we can see corrosion effects (rust?).
In the third photo we can see some liquid near the gasket.
What is the cause of it?

There aren't these effects in any other spark plugs.
This is a photo of a spark plug without flaws (before and after cleaning).

In Italy we say: there is not two without three.
I was wrong again with the pitcure (in my opinion I am ...)
I hope that this time is ok.

I don't see any major problems with the spark plugs. I suspect that the "corrosion" is due to moisture getting to the plugs when one of the valves to that cylinder was open to the air and moisture could enter over a long time. It doesn't look like there is a massive amount of corrosion like might be caused by a cracked head or leaky head gasket. It appears that the carburetor is running a bit rich (too much gas to air ratio). Could also be plugs are not proper heat range. Or can be that the engine doesn't run long enough to burn off the carbon produced with a cold start. It is normal for cylinders 1 & 6 to run a little lean, 2 & 5 to be about right and 3 & 4 to be a little rich. That is due to the passage length between the carburetor and carburetor (longer distance = more resistance = less flow = less gas). If a cylinder has weak oil rings it might use more oil and therefore have more carbon build up on the spark plug.

Hi Barrett.
I can't count the gear's teeth.
I ask you and at Chipper if you know if transmission of '29 is same of '31.

Barrett, can you edit some picture of your transmission?
What does it mean: partialy disassembled?
Have you all the pieces (gears and shafts)?

Some of the parts are the same in a 1929 and 1931 transmission. The spline number on the center shafts are different and therefore so are the gears.

I don't know how we got so far away from 29 spark plugs. Please drift back in line.
