Thanks, but how do i fix them? Think, i Need the metall cover over the bolts and on the other way that doesn´t fit, because i have screws from inside?! Another Problem is the Rubber, i´m not happy with the fitting. The rubber curl in the rounding.
Also I´ts a little bit different to the original, because the knurl is finer. original Repro
Whats this for a Rubber? Was in the Set with the Windshield Rubber. Can´t find a place for it
Russel is correct in that you will have to weld the new center strip in. You are German (note my last name, really Dietrich) so I don't have to tell you to meaaure carefully or your windshield gasket and interior center piece trime will not fit properly (screw holes won't line up).
Your windshield gasket appears to be the wrong type. Your reveal molding (chrome) is mounted directyl to the pinch weld and you only need 1 groove to mount the glass. I have had my '40 for over 50 years and have put a new gasket on the windshield twice and both times the gasket had only a single groove for the glass and no lip to cover the pinch weld. The gasket appears to be for a Master Deluxe or Master 85 which do not have the trim on the pinch weld. On the '40 Special Deluxe the only thing that holds the windshield in is the bedding caulking/sealant and windshield interior trim.
Thanks for the Tipps.Oh yes,the manual. I've searched for details, but totally forgotten my manual. The gasket is the right one, for SDL with chrome! I've checked stovebolt Tipps, but could't find something similar to my window. Seems so that under my chrome isn't any gasket. Better i do not touch this! Will post a picture from the chrome later By the way the gasket was from obsolete, but they are no longer on business. But they answered my mail. I can fix the curling rubber with a heat gun or laying in the sun -we will see!
Looking at the top picture it appears the chrome reveal molding is glued on with silicone? Oh my! I don't know how you will cut out the divider and weld in the replacement without removing the chrome.
I suggest you clean up all the rusty metal around the windshield and then paint it with a good rust covering primer. If you don't, you will be removing it and re-doing the job.
The small rubber is for a later model. It was used on 1948 models and probably also '47. It's only purpose was to hold the stainless moldings in place.
Andre Been away for awhile. Three things. 1. Figure 15 above does not apply to the 1940 Special Deluxe. 2. I had to drill out the screws in my center bar but I had enough "meat" left that I was able to JB weld (glue) nuts in place. Use the interior center bar for alignment. 3. You have a Master 85 windshield gasket or wrong gasket rather than a '40 Special Deluxe gasket. The '40 Special Deluxe gasket does not hook over the pinch weld but butts against the inside of the pinch weld. Be sure to reinstall the windshield stainless trim before you install the windshield as the correct windshield gasket butts up against the stainless trim. When you install the windshield, lay a fat bead of sealant just below the stainless trim on the inside. That way enough sealant will squeeze up and seal between the trim and the gasket and prevent water from seeping in between the gasket and trim.
One of the windshield wiper arms is the wrong part. Both should be the same length.
Hello Mike, after all, I think Figure 15 on the left is for the 1940 Special Deluxe, especially since it is the same picture as in the Steel Rubber Discription. Also i think the big gasket is the right one, but the small "S" one is wrong and not for SDL. I mean that was a one fits all package?! When i bought this i had a long chat with Teresa Newborn from Obschevy.com. She told me
If your car only has windshield moulding down the center bar you would use B01000 gasket $55.00. Some of the deluxe cars had additional moulding around the windshield and use the B01000C or the deluxe gasket. The windshield gasket includes the center bar and the rubber around the glass, so you don't need any additional seals. Both the standard and the deluxe gasket basically look the same with the center bar made in the middle. All cars had the chrome down the center bar but only the deluxe cars had chrome around the windshield.............Do you want the B01000C or the B01000 windshield gasket?
I bought the B01000C / "Windshield gasket with slot for chrome"
As next step i would install the chrome moulding as described in Mikes Post
If your Special Deluxe windshield trim is like mine and from your other post it looks like it is. The only way to install it is over the pinch weld. It will not install in the slot in the gasket. The gasket with the slot for chrome is for later year model cars. I put a new gasket in mine in 1971 and again in 1999 and both times I used a gasket that butts up against the pinch weld from the inside and does not hook over the pinch weld. You may use the gasket you have but you will not be able to install the chrome trim.
