On another thread, Chevy-Chef explained that the correct Guide turn signal for a 48 is the Guide 6002 (my 48 Fleetline has a 6004, which I understand is a later model.) Now, supposedly, the 6002 is harder to find, for some reason, but I have been seeing several Guide 6002s on eBay that are chromed. Was this ever a correct piece for a 48 Chevy? At first, I thought they were modern repops, as some non-purists like anything and everything chromed, but they seem to be vintage. Does anyone know what were the correct applications for the chrome directionals?

The Guide switch Chevrolet sold was always painted
the same color as the steering column.
Guide also sold the same switch through private parts houses for universal mounting. They were chrome or painted silver.

The 6002 are used on 1942 and 1946 and the 6004 are used on 1947 and 1948 and the 6002 has a shorter handle and your correct a little harder to find and some people like the chrome better also the sleeve that goes down the steering column where the wires go tucked in is hard to find also.

Thanks. So the 6004 is correct for a 48. Good to know...

NO! Read This

If it Has the "L" and "R" it is not '48! Their are at least two different Guide 6002's, one with the letters and one without.

Or at least that is how it stands until someone provides PROOF otherwise.

Got it! Mine has the L and R, so time to start searching.... However, since the turn signal was an option, I imagine many people opted not to get one and put one on in the later years...

Did I not see where Ruscar posted the advertisement? where does it say what a 6002 is for or the 6004?

Let me see If I've got this right. It's so confusing.

The 6002 was used on the 42 and 46.

The 6004 was used on the 47 and 48.

The 6004 with the "R" and "L" was used on the 49 only.

The 6004 without the "R" and "L" was used on the 50, 51 and 52 and was different from the 47 and 49 in that it had a self canceling roller.

That can't be right can it? Dang. Would someone please set the record straingt and never mind they the units were offered on other makes or cars.

Thanks,
Charlie computer

As far as I was aware there is 2 versions of the 6002 one with the embossed circle and no L or R with a red indicator and the smooth one with L and R and a green indicator and the later self canceling style 6004. I also understood that the 6002 smooth style with L and R is correct for 1949 and some earlier Pontiac's ??

iagree Wth 1942aerosedan..The 6004 is completly incorrect for the 47-48...The 2 6002's have the same body shape but the one you should be looking for is the one in the 48 accessory book [Linked Image from i563.photobucket.com]

Johnny Johnnson explained this correct part very well and is an expert on accessorys for many chevy cars, especially 47-48..As I said a few times the correct 6002 for 47-48 is very hard to find! The 6002 with the L&R shows up often
