I believe that the directional switches that Johnny Johnson shows on his website (1948chevy.com) are the correct ones for 47-48s. They look like the one identified in the accessories brochure - single bulb on the unit, paddle handle, bent arm.

The difference is the color. The 1947 is a rich dark brown and the 1948 is more of a tan color.

Dale you are perfectly correct...The question is though why is the switch (without) the L&R "johnny's" and the switch (with) the L&R both Guide 6002 switches

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that. You would have thought the change would have been significant enough for Guide to bump the P/N, but I guess not.

I think the #6002 represents a Guide group number rather than a part number and this is why. The back cover with the #6002 is the same and fits four somewhat different turn signals. One of the turn signals like the one on my 1948 Cabriolet, and another like the one on my 1947 Aerosedan, same body but different handles. Note both of these do not have an “L” or “R” stamping on them. My research indicates the one on my 1948 Cabriolet is correct for 1947 & 1948, the reason being is everyone I spoke to who collects these say unrestored ones with the chrome handle was always painted dark brown like the 1947 & 1948 steering column. The one on my 1947 Aerosedan is more correct for 1942 & 1946 because of the same reason, unrestored ones always came in the lighter beige color like the 1942 & 1946 steering column. I just wanted to put the 1942-46 one on my 1947 Aerosedan because it is rarer. I have also seen the 1948 style chrome plated, not sure why?
The next two styles are the same and have the “L” and “R” stamping on them. Same profile looking down at them as the first two I mentioned and can interchange with the back cover. All the internals seem to be the same for all four styles. The only difference I see with this style with “L” and “R” stamping on them is I have seen them painted and chrome. I was told these styles are Pontiac and possibly Buick, Olds and Caddy???

Just to be clear, I don’t claim to be 100% correct about what I just wrote, but I do believe my research is as close to being correct as possible. I was very anal about being correct with my 1948 Cabriolet and hope I never get proved wrong so I don’t have to go and change/correct it now that it is done.

FYI - check eBay and one will come up for sale, i see them periodically and consistantly there.
Ken, thanks for the complement on the website, i appreciate it very much. It took me a lot of time and effort to put together and was hoping it was not a waste of time.

The chrome ones may have been sold through UMS dealers for universal installations.
