The Cross Member does not have to come out. Two bolts hold it in there. After taking loose all the obvious like, brake wires, hydraulic line, carter pin and brake pedal pin, return spring, etc. One bolt from the under side(you can see that one from the bottom) and one from the hidden side. Both with box end wrenches. The "hidden" one can only be turned by the box wrench one quarter turn. Then remove wrench flip over and reinsert wrench for 1/4 more turn. Flip back and forth. Lots of fun! Especially if the area is clogged with grease and dirt. You may have to "clear" the area with a straight screwdriver before inserting the box end wrench. I "do it" by feeling the wrench "pop" in place.
