What will the new color scheme be?

Cheers

Ray

Hi all

I have a question about the mounting of the front window to the body.
There are the three bolt holes which allow the support frame for the front window to be mounted to the cowel. Is there some sort of gasket that goes between the cowel and the front window support, or does the window support mound directly to the body?
I was thinking about making something out of thin rubber so as it is not metal on paint.

On the other thing, colour scheme.
I have been looking on the internet for the past 3 months trying to come up with something different. I could not find one in the colour scheme I have chosen.

It’s now Green. I re sprayed the car last weekend and it just needs a rubdown.

Thanks.

Hi 1928 Chev Tourer,

There should be a thin piece of rubber between the bottom of the uprights and the cowl. You can buy 29's you cant get 28's. I made mine out of push bike inner tube as it does not need to be very thick. Just enough to stop any squeaking or paint removal.

Green? Sounds good.

Love to see some photos when your done.

Cheers

Ray

I use roofing felt to replace the fabric anti-squeak material. It is almost undetectable unlike rubber that can be seen.

Todays job is finding some 5/16 copper pipe for the main fuel line and making up a template for the front window.

While im on the topic of front windows, are there any suggestions for front window rubber?

Is there a kit I can purchase and what about the under side of the lower glass beteweene the cowel and the window frame.

Thanks
Darren

Now that is a different colour. What colour is it in case the photos dont show it correctly.

Is it all going to be the one colour?

You look to be a pretty good painter by the way, much experience?

The rubber kits are available in 2 places in Melbourne:

Scotts Rubber in Oakleigh http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/

Bill Thompsons in Bayswater http://www.autorubbers.com.au/

There are three types of rubber

1. The U shape to surround the glass
2. The H shape for between the top and bottom glass
3. the piece for between the bottom frame and the cowl, make sure you get 2"

Both companies know what you want if you mention 28 Chev, and Scotts are more likely to have it in stock. I just bought 2 sets at about $45 per set. Its getting rare out here so you may want to buy a spare set.

Also, more importantly the original glass was about 5mm thick, any thicker than 5.5,, you wont be able to use the U shape.

Grant (Monty 28 Chev) had this problem as the glass man gave him 6.5mm, but the glazier fixed the problem by using silicone instead of rubber.

Good Luck

Ray

I may be wrong (1st time) but it appears to me that the headlights are mounted improperly. The adjustable mounts under the headlights, should be under the cross bar for better adjustment and allows the light shell to fit closer to the bar.
The light rests in the concave part of the cross bar.

The "thimbles" as we call them "down under",go over the hold down bolt thread underneath the crossbar. If you leave them where they are, you'll have too much vibration, and very shaky heady light beams.

My wife and I have two 1928 Chev AB's now... And it seems the one we just bought to restore is "1928ChevTourer"s car as pictured in this thread. It's essentially unchanged from what you see here but we have some significant plans for it. We bought it from what I understood to be a dealer/collector in Adelaide late last year.

Our other Chev is a fully registered 1928 that's needing some work but has been in my wife's family for the last 20 years or so and we understand we are only the 3rd owners of that particular car. It will also undergo a full restoration. Lots of work ahead and we are new to this, so we will pace ourselves, ask for lots of advice and research research research!

Once I work out how to post photos I'll add some of both the car in this thread and our other '28.

Ian

Good luck '28 Chev.
I wonder how many 28's are on the road in Australia right now?

We have 2, the car which is the subject of this thread and another 1928 AB Tourer that was converted to a ute in the '30's... We have a lot of work to do on both and a lot to learn, but we are committed and excited about getting them both restored and on the road

Here is the car from this thread as it currently is...[Linked Image from i749.photobucket.com]

And a few other photos... If anyone knows the original owner (or last one) we would love to get in touch to learn more about this car and what's been done etc... Have sent the forum user a pm a few weeks back but no reply (nor has it been read) at this point:

I have a '28 roadster and love driving it, I had two '27,s and had a lot of fun in them over the years but I have to admit 28,s are great".
Your going to love driving it, by the way you have a 29 light switch, just saying, good luck with the rest.
