I need to repair the hear riser in the exhaust of my 33 Chevy Master. Anyone know where I can find these parts?. If you would have a order number, that would be of great help. Don

The best bet is to make them yourself. Find a stainless shaft and make a plate from sheet metal. Put them together.

Chipper, That sounds like a possible to do. However I have no idea what the spring layout and adjustment is. Can you help? Don The 33 engineering Manual that I've seen on line shows the parts of the heat riser. However the picture is very poor. Does anyone have a better image of these parts that they are willing to share? Don

Richard, the photos are great! My local machine shop encouraged me to be lazy today. They machined, drilled, threaded, all the parts for the hear riser for $25. And I got it back in 3 hours. It made my afternoon. There are some special advantages to living in a smell town. Don If you ever get stuck in Northern CA and need machine work, let me know. Also your manifold is beautiful.

I realize this is an old thread but I also need to replace the thermostatic coil spring for the heat riser on my 34 Master. The original one, which is broken, has a few more coils than those currently available. Does anyone know where I can get an original one or will the current replacements for 1937 and newer work?

Brendan,
The 1933-1936 models used part number 837491. I cannot see where it ever crossed. Some years back I purchased 838573 from a Chev. dealership and it has worked really well on my 1933 Master model. I don't remember if they told me it was a cross or not. The 1937-40 part number was 838561 which later crossed to the 878573 so the 1937 replacements should work OK.

Thank you for the information. I was able to bend a new tab in the center coil of my original spring and reinstall it. I tested it with a propane torch a couple times and it worked fine. I intend to keep an eye on it in case breaks (and it probably will) again. In the mean time, I intend to order a later replacement and have it on hand.
Mike
