The shaft that sticks out the side of the transmission that the shift linkage clamps onto has a key/key-way in it. My "key" fell apart when I was disassembling it. Does anyone know the name of this key, and where I can get one? Thanks. Joe

No, not specifically. I've been reading the shop manual. The piece that clamps around the gear shift lever is called the "reactionary lever" and it's all located under the "metal boot". The picture you referenced does show the lever and the boot on the right. The "reactionary lever" is 4.041, on this page, and would be what surrounds the shaft/key. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/parts/1929_41/41cp089.html

You're right. It doesn't mention anything about a key. Perhaps I need to take another look.

Mystery solved. The "key" is actualy part of the lever. The broken piece I found on the floor broke off the lever. So Joe, you did not break anything, the piece just fell on the floor? Am I correct to assume you do not need this part? Thanks, Mike
