Looking for a small decorative shield, that attaches to the front of a winged radiator cap. It's slightly larger than a quarter and will have 2 or 3 small mounting holes. They are likely nickel plated brass. Here's an example.

Does anyone know any history about these moto-meter shields?

It looks like one that came with the "Arrowmeter" made by Bushnel. I have seen several types of the shield, mostly ones that have a letter monogram. The shield was mounted on a set of wings that also was the cap. Arrowmeters are fairly hard to find, but were high quality usually made from nickel plated brass.

I have several of the shields, and most of them are letters. As I understand it, you walked in to the parts man and purchased the fancy radiator cap. The parts man pulls out a tray with all the letters of the alphabet and you select a letter that matches your first letter in your last name to put on the cap.

I just took a quick look at mine now that I am home. My Arrowmeter has only 2 holes for the screws in the shield.. It does have a flip down locking tab partly behind the shield so you can tip back the meter part and fill the radiator. Arrowmeters don't have a thermometer, they use a bi-metal strip which causes an arrow or needle to point at the temps marked on the face.

Mine also only has two holes, that must be for a smaller shield, but could easily be drilled for a bigger shield. The third hole could be filled with a cut off screw head, as the locking screw is hidden behind the shield at the bottom location.

Those wings are just like on my Arrowmeter, latch part and all. almost every Arrowmeter I have ever seen has those wings. That is why I think they were made by Bushnel as well. Bushnel is the same company who makes binoculars and optical lenses to this day.
