Hello everyone.
I image that for a 39 chevrolet engine the best carburetor is one from 1939 but case I don't find one (nothing appeared on ebay in the last months), would other 37-49 carburetors work as well? Will I have to modify something or are they a direct fit?
Thanks,
Mihai.

The correct carburetor for a '39 is a Carter W1 420S. Several years ago I sold a new one on ebay. Someone in New Zealand bought it.

My 39 Master Deluxe came with a Rochester type B. It bolts right on without an adapter. It runs good so I have not replaced it with a Carter yet. If you can't find a Carter maybe you can find a Rochester?

Thank you all.
But to be more precise would a Carter found on earlier/later Chevrolet from the same period (37-49) be a bolt on fit or I would need some adapting flange or have to modify the connecting rod?

I have a W-1 from a '38 that you can have for $15 plus shipping. It would need to be rebuilt. I can send you pictures if you are interested.

The 1939 and 1940 Carter carbureators are the same. The 1938 is slightly different and would work fine. The 1937 will work but the 1938 would be more desirable. The 1941 and up to 1948 will cause a 1939 to run too lean but will work (fit).
