My 1928 coupe couldn't climb a 15 degree hill in my town. I read on VCCA that a lot of you switched to a 3077 Autolight plug . I did yesterday and WOW what an improvement!!! thanks for the info. respectfully trooper

have you done a compression test or vacuum test? I got 3077 plugs and they work great.

Until I made the change to 3077's I thought it was just personal preference, but after just 3 weeks I'm a believer.

Now if you want some real hill climbing fun , bring your car to the Newport Antique Auto Hillclimb in Newport Indiana. Part of the hill at the top gets to about 18% grade and it is a city street. A LOT of fun! http://www.newporthillclimb.com/

For those of you who are running a #3077 spark plug. Is the side electrode suppose to be along side of the center electrode so that it sparks at say a 90 degree angle or should the side electrode be inline with the center electrode and sparks "inline" with the electrodes? My assumption is the 90 degree angle, just looks a bit different to me. Also, what gap do you guys gap them at? I am thinking .040, but could be wrong.

Cheers,
Gary

Do not change the configuration of the plug. Set the gap side to side. .040 will work.

Hi Ray,

Good subject to talk about, as I run my gap on my 3077's at 30 thou.

Have you settled on 40 thou as a result of testing, and did you detect a distinct difference.

Would the bigger gap, bigger spark place more load on the points and coil.

Regards

Ray

I could live with the .035 to .040. Whatever works the best for the particular engine.

We always assume that the remainder of the system is operating at top efficiency. If it breaks down, it just wasn't meant to be.
