Besides burning the light filaments a little hotter, can anyone think of a reason why you couldn't put an 8 volt battery in place of the 6 volt?

Just wondering.

your generator/regulator will probably not charge if they are left as is. mike

The generator and cut-out will work on 6 volts, 8 volts and 12 volts. However, converting to 8 volts is a complete waste of time and you are gaining nothing other than a lot of headaches. With everything up to snuff your 6 volt system will work just fine.

O.k. It was just a thought. And it looks like not a very good one.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Hey Gotta,

Just in case you're having second thoughts.....

I don't think you'll find anybody on this site (me included) who would encourage you to switch to 8 volts.

Bottom Line: Just say NO, to the idea of 8 volts.

Bill.

I put an 8 volt battery in one of my Farmall tractors. I just had to tweek the generator and voltage regulator a little. Now before you guys jump on me I live in MN where it gets to 30 & 40 below. I would not do it in a car because I would not use it in the winter. The extra couple of volts does help when it is very cold out.

That is where I think an 8 volt battery belongs our Tractor Supply Company stores still sell 8 volt battries.

Well....it looks like the jury came back with a unanimous decision!!

No 8 volts for me either.

Thanks again to all of you for your great input.
