I've been mia this summer working outside instead of working on the car. Tore the rear end apart and pulled the drive shaft out , the part that rides on the front bushing is scored pretty good . Is this area a canidate for a speedy sleeve ? The bushing , as luck has been going my spare is every bit as sloppy as the what is left of the orignal . Filling station doesnt list that model so off to the lathe . I do have a piece of bushing material big enough but how tight should it fit to the shaft ? Would .005 be enough clearance between the bushing and the drive shaft ? The drive shaft itself is too long for my lathe ,so thats why I'm thinking of the sleeve . Well I suppose if I would wire weld the shaft and hold it with a 3 jaw steady rest I could do it but would theheat mess up the temper of the shaft ? Thanks , Ivan

First there are two bushing inside of the torque tube on a 1934 Master. The rear tail of the U joint rides in the front bushing and the parts book says that bushing is 1 3/8" ID. The bushing just behind it is the one the drive shaft runs in and it says it is 1" ID. The shop manual says if the clearance excees .010" the bushins should be replaced (note-there is a packing seal behind the rear bushing). The bushings are fairly easy to find in NOS. I would think a thin speedy sleve would not be durable enough as its designed to have a seal contact it only.
Try Bruce Bugay - he always has an ad in the G&D and has a good supply of these type of parts.

Thanks Chevgene , Its been apart for quite awhile . I knew about the seal ,saw that in the FS catalog . Had'nt checked the back bushing was more concerned with the shaft . Better look things over again , and find my service manual .Its around somewhere ,just dont remember where . Ivan
