Why do I feel if another political party presented this idea you would be all for it! Our tax dollars have also been paying for a war looking for WMD's that have never been found, but that is OK.
Buy a new car and enjoy life, it is too short to complain about everything you can't control

The old suburban is worth more to me than the $4500 the
goverment rebate ,It has 60,000 miles on it and looks like new . The old girl is in semi retirement,but when I need to pull something there is no question about the Chevrolet power.
This is one of those things you dont need all the time ,but when you do it's there.

John, Were do you see anything here that points to, refers to or suggests any political party??? I have my opinions just like everyone else. I to want to see workers back to work, but not upon our backs. Why add billions more $$ to a debt that is going to have to payed back, when there are better options that will generate much more work.

While the cash for a new car is nice, it is false economy to be sure!

The whole environmental thing is just to make people feel warm and fuzzy. I believe my truck could achieve 18 mpg if properly tuned. If they were still being produced, I could trade a Ford Explorer in for a 1941 Chevy! If my truck was a 3/4 ton, it would only need to get 15 mpg to qualify. You'd think we'd expect more than 1940's tech by now. Destroying and building new cars is certainly harmful for the environment. The whole purpose is just to get people to buy stuff they don't need.

One car I wish I never got rid of was my 68 caprice bought in 1972. Even with 327 4brl, posi. and every special order option you could get, it easily got 21 mpg on the road. My 3.3 caravan gets 18 at best.

Being you asked, I think that earlier comment above sums up where you are coming from. You are correct we all have political opinions but you are pretty obviouse with yours.
FYI the people who are out of work pay taxes when they work also! So far the plan is working new cars are being sold is that not what the objective was? The war is costing taxpayers much more than this clunker law ever will, but that is a good thing I guess to some.

War is not an option, it is a fact of life. Is, was, always will be. You can not compare the Military Defense of our nation to an agenda or other economic endeavors. Fact is there are so many other ideas out there that would stimulate jobs, but they are purposely ignored (by both Rep.+ Dems.) for reasons I can not understand and further harm any chance for a quicker recovery. No one who is truly at fault gets punished, just promoted!

And I stand by my comment "The Minority HAS spoken! The Majority MUST obey!"

The way Cash for Clunkers is being handled I hate to think how the new health care program will be. The dealers are not getting their money and the salvage yards don't want the vehicles. I'll keep my 95 Suburban and 01 Malibu thank you very much.

Well, let's not get a new health care program. Keep on sending emails, making phone calling, writing letters, etc. against it. If you haven't sent/called yet, do it now.

As you say Jim, just imagine what a horrible mess that would be IF it came to pass.....

Now it's health care! And WMD! This thread is mostly political and should end now....

Well, as usual, PDX Joe is right about "political" etc. But, it sure is topical. On a lot of peoples' minds. Way back when it was, at least, about cars. The "cash for junkers" program, or whatever it's called.......

I agree and am partly guilty myself. I did use the WMD example only in an attempt to point out that tax dollars are spent and not everyone is going to approve of the way they are used, my intentions were not to be political. I do feel from the rants I was reading that if the clunker law came from a different administration, "it would be a better idea."

This type of political situation has happened before and people were told there are sites for people to share thier thoughts on these type of subjects but not here.

Secondly I do take offense that a someone lacked the class to post a smilley face icon of what looks like to be a condem, without any dialect. It is not funny, and should not be here, it could make the VCCA look bad in the eyes of others.

Did anyone actually use the clunker law to purchase a new car that could share their thoughts?

I too agree with PDXJoe here........but I think we all have to agree that this is a tough one......it started with the "clunker" law which is automotive related......but quickly got political......easy to to these days......I have an opinion on the "clunker" deal too, but I won't express it here for the sake of the VCCA and this site.........

I think everyone is right on the raw edge here and the forum moderator has been absent for awhile due to a relocation and change in internet provider.

......and that's my two cents worth.


Or at least move it to the Members Only area so the whole world doesn't have to deal with it.

My take on the Clunker Plan was as I stated "While the cash for a new car is nice, it is false economy to be sure!"

Ken, I like your idea of "Members Only" for "heated" discussions, but even then would have to be moderated.

I thought each forum had several moderators. If one is missing, another one can handle the duties.

For what it's worth, I vote to move this inside --- members only, or whatever it's called.

It is on the edge. But so is the subject. I'd like to continue reading it.

I looked close enough and I know what I am looking at, so please don't try to insult me by asking me to put my glasses on. I guess these hieroglyphics you prefer to use are to cerebral for me, however I DO know what I am seeing. I think it was in poor taste and not in the best interest of the club and I feel it does not belong. Again you are the one who put it so I doubt you find it the same as I do, my concern is the club and our image at this point.

It's my understanding a moderator just "pick up the whole thread and move it" into a different place. In this case, into "members only."

I DO think "we" should do that.

The whole thing IS interesting. But, it ain't getting any cooler either. I DO hope "they" don't lock it up.......
