Does any one know the difference between a Delco Remy Starter with 1107001 (my understanding the one for 1938 chevy) and a 1107009? Can the two be made to look like each other if the tags are changed?

1107001 was the tag number and part number for a 1938 starter. 1107009 was the number for 1939-40.The 001 number was discontinued in 1941 and the 009 was sold as the replacement for 1938-40.In the years after that the numbers changed many times, always up dating to the next new number. By 1952 the number was 1107055 and the starter fit 1938-40 cars and 1938-52 trucks.
Yes the starter will look the same. The 1939 had an improved starter drive and that was the change. The 1939 drive also was sold as a replacement for 1938's.
