I am new to your site. It really looks good! I have recently aquired a truck that has been in our family for many years ( at least from the early 60s). My truck is a 4 cylinder chevy stake bed truck. The truck has been stored all of its life and is in excellent shape. The truck has a wooden cab, wooden spoke wheels. I have been told that Chevy started to produce a cab for their trucks in 1926, so I think that it is older than 26. It is a 1 ton truck.
I do not know if it is stuck, but I suppose that it is due to the length of time in storage.
I will also need parts for the engine. Any suggestions for a supply house for 4 cylinder chevys?

Without more information like numbers from engine, body and/or pictures identification is difficult. Some answers to the following questions will also help. Is the oil pump in the engine, on the back or front of the generator? Is the distributor on the engine block? Between generator and oil pump or on the back of the generator? Location of the spark and throttle control arms? Number, shape and type instruments?

Congratulations! A truck with wooden spokes and cab sounds from the twenties, 4 cylinder is before '29 (late '28) but a tat more info would narrow it down real easy to a certain year. All I know is '26 has 8" coffee can headlights which is the easiest to recognize from those trucks. Try to find some numbers on the right side of the engine, one set is punched in; one set is cast "on" the block around the Chevy logo. On the left hand side in or under the cab you might find a tag with some information too. You might still be able to find the original papers of it? And yes we like pictures to see for ourselves what it looks like and to help you determine what year it was build. You are in the right spot for any info on this vehicle, the gents here will be able to help you with anything you might want to or need to know. Have a look here for the right parts and names so you are sure what you need. http://chevy.tocmp.com/1916_28parts/index.htmWelcome, have a seat, a coffee and start reading

Thanks for a reply Chipper and Truck 26.
I will look this afternoon and take some pictures to post. Does the story of Chevy not producing a factory cab until 26 ring true?
Thanks

Hi PJS, As far as I got the story, the customer bought frame, grill, hood, (cowl), fire wall and front screen on an "empty" chassis. Then he had a cab and box build to his specifications. In the States the Fisher Company became THE cab and coach builder for Chevrolet. In Canada the Brantford Company (among others) did the same. David Hayward will be able to tell you better how and what, he has a whole website with lots of info, this is a link to his pages there http://home.earthlink.net/~scrippsbooth/chev.html . There is much more to be found on the WWW. Now when what changed when I'm not qualified to tell you. I read it all, but it didn't really stick. :) Others here will be able to answer that, I'm only a vintage Chevy owner since last year and there is so much to be learned. Pictures always get more attention so posting those would be the next best thing I guess.

Can you please post some photos? Has the truck got a "light bar" across the front of the radiator? This was introduced August 1st 1925. The artillery wheels and four-cylimnder engine say preior to 1929. The engine number will tell us much more if it is original, and also the engine block casting code on the side and the casting date code near it. Hello PJS, To place digital photos here you may use http://imageshack.us Browse the picture you want and to a size ca. 650 x 800 pxl, or less (as described in the imageshack) Host the picture, and use the last alternative (direct line to image). Copy that line and transfer it to the chat posting you want it to be on. Write [img]straight before and after the line. Then you have the picture open for others to see. Use the prewiew button to check that it works. If wrong you can adjust the posting during the next hour, before the posting is closed for adjustments. Good luck!
