Hi all,
the chrome shop wants $50/guard to rechrome and I see the Filling Station sells them for $25. Wondering if these reproduction units are as heavy as the originals? I have seen comments in this forums that it's not worth chroming stuff when you can buy it, is that the case here? Is it true with 39 exterior handles too?

Thanks,
Mike

I can only speak for myself. I prefer to rechrome the original. I rechromed both bumpers and all four bumper guards on my 38. I did discover that not all chrome shops are created equal. blush

From what I have seen of the reproductions I would prefer the originals. The repro's do not have the slight concave face on the front of the guard. They would be close but no cigar.Perhaps if you shop around you can find a good rechromer offering a lower price.
I have never seen the handles but rechroming the pot metal is another story.

My car didn't come with any bumper guards and I bought mine from the Filling Station. They are very nice and have the indent bands typical of the 38. I don't know about concavity on the face but you could buy one, see if you like and either return or buy the rest.

Thanks all for your help. My orig. bumper guards are very good so I'll go the rechrome route.
