What is the trick to bolting the u joint back together with out the special tool? Having a heck of a time any tips or tricks would be of great help.

Make your own special tool; it is just a thick wire two pronged fork with a loop at the handle. Use a rubber band or chain thru the loop to tension it to the gear shift lever. The fork prongs go behind the U joint front plate and holds it place until you get the bolts started.


34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

I have the tool but the last time I held the ring in place with a vise grip if I remeber correctly.

I never remember where my vise grips are! So I use what ever is handy.
