Hi everyone I started to rebuild the carburetor that was on my 41 town sedan and I found it is a Carter YF I think this is not the proper carburetor so I stopped rebuilding it until I can get more info. I was hoping some one can let me know what this carburetor I have fits and if I should look for the W-1 carburetor as from what I have been reading is the proper one for this car, if so I have to find one either rebuilt or complete. thanks for all your help. the frame is getting closer to being completed.

The YF is what Carter used for a replacement after they quit making the W-1....The only Chevrolet it was used on was the 1962 Chevy II 4 cylinder.
The 1941-48 W-1 are the same.They will have an 1 1/2" throtle bore (and plate)...The 1940 and older had 1 7/16".

Thanks for the information. would if hurt if I keep the YF ? is the YF any better of a carburetor if So maybe I should just keep it. if not I would be interested in getting the proper carburetor. I will be asking around at local places today. and will see if I can find one around. if not I will get in contact with chevy b about what he would want for the one he has. thanks again

Years ago I used YF Carters with good results. I bought them new from Wards for about 10 bucks. I replaced the original low top Rochester with a Carter 413 to avoid the leaks and I drove that car hard for years. Also used one on my '38 and '39, I just lived 4 blocks from the Wards warehouse and it was our parts department for bicyles, cars, tools bolts nuts....Now, on my '48 I use a later Rochester. It's simple to work on compared to the Carters W1 and YF.

The only problem with the YF is that they were more or less a universal carb. and are not always correctly jetted for your engine. The jetting/metering rods of the W1 were tailored for certain applications and engines. Also I have read where some of the new fuels can damage the diaphragm type accelerator pump YF...
