I just did a compression test on my '34 Standard and was pleasantly surprised. ALL 6 cylinders registered at EXACTLY 90 lbs, not 91 or 89 but all at 90. I used to do alot of compression tests on vehicles years ago when selling a top cylinder lubricant and never ran across such an even test. This gives me a nice snapshot of the innards.

Thanks Gene, since installing the new ignition switch along with carb and fuel pump, plus cleaning and lining the fuel tank the car is running great. It generally turns over in less the a second , idles great and runs smooth. It only took 3 months, a few dozen hours and many hundreds of dollars but it was well worth it. I can now take a leisurely drive and have great confidance that I'll make it home on my own. I now have one of the slowest Chevy's in town and one of the fastest. I took the '34 out to brunch this morning then took the '70 Chevelle out. While at a stop light one of those'80's GM cars that rides about 3 feet off the ground with 22" rims , purple dayglow paint and spinners pulled up beside me and just stared at me. After several seconds of his stare I asked him what he had under the hood and he answered "Just a little thing" and I answered the same. As the light turned green I lit up the rear end in first and second gear and saw him in my rearview fumbling around, I think he was looking for that switch that makes his spinners go faster! My mechanic loves seeing those monstrosities, he always says there's one more classic destroyed, making one less in circulation, making our muscle cars worth more. Next month there's another antique/ classic car auction here in town, I was told there will be over 250 cars run through in one day. Last one I went to the cars were going for ridiculously low prices, like a '70 SS 454 Chevelle in good condition going for $12,500!!! I'm leaving my credit cards and checkbook at home this time ensuring there will be many fantastic deals.

Where do I sign up for that 70 SS 454!
Must be nice to actually drive a car past the property line.
Your compression readings make me feel a little better about my 36 which were 90,90,90,90,85,95. Don't know what they should be, but after the motor was froze for a number of years, maybe that's not too bad.

Yeah, I don't know what they should be either, but my engine was rebuilt and has only 700 miles on it now, so things are still getting seated and broken in. I've always thought that somewhat low compression is not near as bad as uneven compression. Come on down to Florida , you may just find that car you can't live without, April 14th. in Clearwater Florida.
