I have a few questions about rebuilding the 4 speed box in my 28 truck. Firstly are there any repro drive gear retaining plate out there for the 4 speed as per Billy Possum's 3 speed replacement. Secondly am after the dimensions of the gearshift interlock plate (part nos 551960,61, 62) which are badly worn on my box. Can anyone help. Was the four speed used on any later models and if so are internals interchangeable. Finally are universals and clucth plate from later models interchangeable and if so what models.

34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

Here are a couple answers to your Questions. The U-joint is the same for all 1 +1 1/2 tons from 1925-31 trucks. Clutch disc's 1925-28. That early 4 spd. trans. was used 1927-28 Models LM + LO. The 1928 LP used some different gears and parts.I have some NOS gears and bearings and thumb latch lever and detend springs for that early trans.

I believe the late 1928 LP model 1.0 ton trucks in 1928 used the same transmission (4 speed) that was used up till 1931 (early 31 LT series 1.5 ton trucks). Mid-1931 M series a new heavier duty 4 speed transmission was introduced up with a 6 bolt PTO mounting.
34 & 35 trucks are the greatest. 36 high cabs are OK too.

A 1929 Truck 4 spd. trans. was different from the rest of them. It used a 10 spline main shaft where as the earlier and later ones used a 6 spline main shaft and related parts.

Recieved NOS gearbox parts from Bruce Bugay last week and assembled my 4speed box over the weekend. It now operates like new after a bit of welding and grinding of gear stick pivot. Surprisingly all bearings were available from my local engineering shop. Thanks for everyones help on this one esp Bruce whos assistance was invaluable.
