What do you use to clean a white vinyl top.

Vinyl top cleaner-if you can find it.Probably a thing of the past.
If it were mine I would use a houseold cleaner such as 409.etc.It will not harm the vinyl but shold not be allowed to remain of the painted surfaces.Should be flushed off to prevent removing the wax.
I use white wall cleaner on the vinyl roof of my convertible.(white)...do it out of the sun , a small section at a time, and keep it flushed off the paint.Use a small stiff brush.

Another thought-Try leather seating surface cleaner. It more gental and eaiser to keep off the paint.Look for a brand that says for leather and vinyl seats.Make take more than one application if top is very dirty.

I tried several of the products listed above and wasn't having much success. As a last resort I tried Colgate toothpaste. When I get finished the top will look like new. I think it will take four tubes but it will be white.

Thanks for your suggestions.

As I posted elsewhere, I use foaming bathroom cleaner and a soft bristle brush. Has worked for many years. Seems to be the best to get the dirt lifted out of the low spots. Toothpaste is too agressive to use. I am sure it will get the dirt out but will take some of the top with it. Baking soda will be better as it will not scratch like tooth paste. And those tiny scratches will cause the material to soil faster unless they are sealed with silicone or other vinyl treatment. I make an suspension of silicone oil and water to keep vinyl supple.

After cleaning your top, use Pledge or furniture polish that has lemon oil in it, the lemon oil preserves vinyl, it is also good to use it on your vinyl seats. Keeps it soft, and smells good also. What ever you do, don't use the after market stuff they sell to keep your tires and vinyl shiny. (No names) that stuff will crack your tires and vinyl.
