Actually, those of us that do one heck of a lot of shipping through the mail or receive a lot of mail weekly can attest to the problems with the post office and can verify that in many situations Priority Mail or First Class Mail doesn't mean that the mail will arrive any faster than Third Class Mail even though it is supposed to. It should.......but nothing is guaranteed when it comes to the post office. And, your location within the United States should have no bearing on the issue since the post office claims that Priority Mail is a two or three day service and First Class Mail takes a day or two longer. Not so in many cases unfortunately.

Sure, sending the G&D via first class is a good option for those that want it........but still that is no guarantee that those that select this option, and pay extra for it, will always get their magazines faster than those of us that stick with the third class option.

:) wink

Bill.

I have often used air mail postage when buying from eBay sellers, using from 3, yes, 3 days to 20 days, but generally 10 - 14. I also have used the Standard (surface) mail, that is using 6-8 weeks. But strangely enough the big boxes and parcels of several sizes often come faster than the G&D.

So with a combination of ads released on a certain date on the web, and a first class mail shipment of G&D, we probably are well off. May be we International members will receive our magazines weeks before you Americans. How about that?

I continue to appreciate the work the BOD has done to solve the "international" deliveries.

Anyone who could tell me the terms of the SECOND CLASS mail? Would that be an option???????????

Thanks for the page, telling the air mail letter post will need 4 - 7 days in transport, which, as to my experience from the last five years, is half the time needed to reach me.

We also have some bad experience with the Postal service in Norway these days. Some valuable color chips(even some from 31) have most probably been lost on the way recently. A real bad happening for CCON, and very difficult to replace. :(

Sorry to hear about the color chips! Our mail service is so bad over here that I haven't shipped anything of value through the post office in about 18 years. They have a habit of losing things........just like the package that I am still waiting for that was shipped to me over three weeks ago from less than 40 miles away. At any rate, when I ship anything of value to my customers (carburetors, generators or whatever) it either goes via UPS or FedEx and in the past 18 years of doing this, unlike the post office, nothing has been lost in all that time.

yipp :cool2: :)

My experience with the USPS has been excellant over many years. I send or receive many packages each week using the PO. In most cases I ship using Priority Mail that mostly goes by FedEx. FedEx has also been good but they seem to be real imaginative in where they put the packages. I find some on the drive, in the garage, on the porch, next to the back door. Yesterday I had one dropped near the garage when I was only 50 feet away working in the shop. Go figure. UPS is another issue. They have managed to break or destroy more stuff than the others combined. And I don't send any carburetors by UPS as they seem to be able to break off the accelerator pumps even when double boxed. Then there is the hassle over the insurance.

Been there and done that with UPS. Ya, trying to collect on their insurance is a nightmare. UPS always has the same story......"it wasn't packed correctly". However, unlike the post office (who is also very famous for smashing everything) they have never lost a package. Recently however, I have switched to FedEx since their rates are cheaper and they deliver the packages faster. The good side of both UPS and FedEx is that you can track the package from stop to stop daily on your computer, and the tracking is free. The post office charges for their tracking and their tracking is useless.

Talk about leaving packages where they don't belong.......several years ago I was waiting for a package shipped by the post office and it never showed up and it never showed up. Finally, after three weeks of waiting I about gave up that I would ever see the package arrive (been there a zillion times already with the post office). Anyway, this one day I went down to the lower property way below my house and there sitting in the snow by the carport (where I keep my bulldozer) was the package! Apparently it had been sitting there for about two weeks! Funny thing though.....the mailman has to drive down past my house to even get to that carport!! Go figure that one!

Guess you never put the Christmas bottle in the mailbox. Shame on you for not recognizing the efforts of the postperson and how much you appreciate them.

Being close to "home" for the G&D mailings I get mine very fast, maybe first week of each month. So no complaints there at all.

I have also had years of good luck with the US Mail & UPS services. Maybe it's good karma or Irish luck.

In fact I sent each of you a case of nice wine for the holidays, via UPS. And since I did not received any complaints I guess you enjoy it.

I wondered whom it came from. I drank the first bottle and got deathly ill. UPS would not tell me who sent it. Will you send me your attorneys name?

Can I get in here somewhere? I just received two newspapers that are a weekly paper???????

Also, just received two: Old Cars Weekly.

So don't bother me with your problems.

And I regularly bribe my mailman with goodies.

The package that I mentioned in an earlier posting that I have been waiting for FINALLY arrived today. Not bad I guess for the post office.....since the package was post marked 2-12-2007 and it arrived today 3-12-2007. It took exactly one month to go less than 40 miles from where it was mailed originally!!!

Quite strange that the mail is slower to Canada over land, than to Norway by sea. If it was not true, all would think that storyteller would be pulling more than one leg, perhaps the legs of a caterpillar?????? wink wink :/ sick  blush mad

Now I know why Mr. Mack got his G&D so fast. The postman knew about the birthday and got there first on his route. But did he sing "For Mack is the jolly Agrin good fellow" talk ?

Not yet Solan, our mail delivery person is a nice lady that drives a Chevy Surburban with an extra steering wheel and brake peddle on the right side in order to pickup and deliver our mail in the RFD mailbox on the side of the road.

I did hear the happy birthday song from a couple of my children over the telephone, (son is 41 and daughter is 45)

Just a question of curiosity that came from the Board Meeting, If the classifieds were made available sooner, at the same time for every VCCA Member who wanted them, could you live with the stories and articles coming later as they do now? The reason I ask as a Board Member, the biggest complaint I receive from members in the Area I represent is that they feel that they have a real unfair advantage with the classifieds, and they wanted an opportunity to get them sooner, and really felt the articles had no shelf life and were good at any time.
John,
What do you think?
