I'm having a difficult time finding wheel cylinder kits for a 36 standard. I need 1-1/8 front and 1-1/16 rear. Are there later models that might use the same size? For some reason, the antique auto vendors are supplying all models for the 36 except the standard FC. Even AutoZone had them listed, but when they came in, they were the wrong size. All I really need is the rubber cups. Thanks.

The 1 1/8" for the front was /is the same kit as a 1949-50 rear. The 1 1/16" was not used on any other Chevrolet. You could use 1949-50 rear wheel cylinders for the rear-they would be 1 1/8" and give a little more braking on the rear wheels.Could also used the Master 1 3/16" on the rear but it may be a little too much brake power. The 49-50 rears do come up on ebay at times. Did you try a NAPA store for the cups?Mine has a drawer with assorted sizes.

You might decide to sleeve the cylinders if you are going "whole hog" on the brakes. A tad expensive, however it will be the last time you re-do the brakes.

Go down to a local home owned auto parts store and ask for the cups by size (1 1/8") etc. or go to a brake repair shop.....or go to a swap meet.....or check on eBay....

Chevgene, thanks for the 49-50 info. No wonder the 1-1/16 are so hard to find if 36 was the only year.
I do plan on getting them sleeved later on, but for now I just wanted brakes for test drives around the property and smoking the tires in the driveway.
We don't have a NAPA store locally anymore so maybe this weekend I'll take a drive to the next town and check out their supply.
MrMack, I think the local home owned parts stores are long gone. I'll do some checking though. The Brake shop sounds like a good idea. I'm not patient enough to wait until the next swap meet, and I use ebay, probably way too much.
Sonny, I may be talking to you, if I don't have any luck here.
Thanks all for your suggestions.

Larry, having local mom and pop auto parts stores, muffler shops, machine shops, are the price we have to pay for living out in the boonies. It is forty miles to the nearest Walmart, McDonalds, or AutoZones! We old codgers out here really suffer. ....Thank goodness it is only a few hundred feet to the boat dock and good fishing! one of our bad things is the whitetail deer eat up the rose bushes in the yard.

Larry While increasing wheel cylinder diameter does increase braking performance it also increases the amount of fluid required to activate it. This means the brake pedal travels further giving the impression of bad adjustment. Tony

Well, I was able to find that elusive drawer of rubber cups from two different parts stores I didn't even know existed. I thought I was stepping back in time in one store.
Chevy b I replied to your email.
Thanks everyone.

leagl, Isn't it nice when you find that there is another place to buy those parts you thought you wouldn't find anywhere, right at your home town parts store? Buy local you may find it somewhere besides eBay!
