Long time lurker, first time poster. Question for you guys. '54 chevy truck 235 engine. What is the correct color to paint the engine? I've looked on several sites, and have come up with gray, blue and green. Anyone know the correct color? Thanks in advance.

Yes siree we do! It is a really dark gray blue, almost charcoal with a touch of blue, Well that is what it looks like to me. The correct paint can be purchased at The Filling Station or Chevys of the Fortys, both have online ordering. The engine paint sold By Mr. Bill H. is more of a light gray and not the correct color, but you do see a lot of it on cars and trucks. (IMHO)

Before the correct dark blue-gray engine color was available from the Filling Station and Chevs of The 40's, Bill Hirsch sold what we call "Gas Meter Gray" as the Chevrolet engine color. To this day, even though he knows better, Bill Hirsch still continues to tell everyone that his paint color is correct. Well.....it would be correct if you were painting a gas meter! :o

Some guys think that its blue because the cars were blue. All the 235 1/2 thru 1 ton truck engines from 1954 thru 1962 were the ols 1929-53 blue/gray.....as were the 265 and 283 used in these trucks.
