Does anyone out there have a good photo of the Trico windshield washer bottle front decal that would have been used on a 38, or there abouts? I was looking to see what it looked like and the design of the lettering.
Thanke, Brian

You may have. I have a couple of pictures but they are too blurry to make out the art work and the text. This is the round bottle, not the square, and should have the word Trico in the shape of a pyramid. If you can send me a good close up digital photo, I'll be in your debt. I'm not in a rush, if your car is not next to the house. It's pretty bad here tonight.
Thanks, Brian

Brian, The best picture that I have is in the Nov. 1937 issue of Chevrolet Dealer News. The bottle is square and has a bail going under it to hold it to the mounting bracket. The ad is actually by Trico but The jat has approved GM accessory-automatic windshield washer printed on it.The 1938-39 had a square jar.The 1940 and up had the round jar.

All right then, I have a 40 and up version. Do you have a photo of the front of the 40 and up version of the Trico windshield washer? The decal is on the metal part.

There is a washer decal listed in Chevs of the 40's catalog.Described for 1939-1950.For sure the years are incorrect but is probably the one shown in Ray's post.My Chevs catalog does not show the decal but they spot light pictures, probably a mistake, but its only $3, so would not be a big loss.

Interesting. I assumed, when I saw the washer bottle in the Nov, '37 Dealer News, that the bottle was for the new models (i.e. 1938). Points would not be deducted if the washer bottle was installed in a '37 ??? How does this work - vacumn motor ?? Where are the nozzles attached ?? Thanks, -Bob

The metal part at the top has a rubber diaphragm in the middle of it. The top of the metal part is connected by hose to a small valve on the dash which is connected back to the vacuum system. When the driver pushes the valve button the vacuum pulls the rubber diaphragm up to the top of the metal part which also draws liquid up through a tube through a check valve into the bottom part of metal top. When you release the valve the diaphragm pushes the liquid, that can't go through the bottom check valve, through another check valve through tubes to the windshield.

Yes, points would be deducted if on a 1937 (if the judge knew which years it was available)...most would think it was not available in 1938-39 also I would bet.
The water jets were built into the wiper transmission housing beginning in 1938.The hole was plugged by a little screw which was removed when the nozzle was installed. This was true for many years except for some 1946-48 models. If washers were installed on them or any other car that did not have the built in plumbing a little jet was installed on to of the cowl next to the wiper transmission. The washer kit was more or less a universal installation kit made by Trico. As example the 1939 Chevrolet kit also could be used on the other GM cars, plus Packard,Studebaker,Huppmobile, and Graham. The square jars were used for 1938 and 1939.The 1940-48 cars and 1940-54 trucks used a round bottle with a small cap and the vacuum operated pump was on top of the cap. From 1949 and up the cars used the large mouthed bottle and the pump was inside the jar.

This is the type of decal I was hoping to get a good photo of: I didn't know there were a bunch of different ones out there. I especially like the valve shown with this one. Brian

I am sure the decal changed several times during the many years that style of washer was used.Different versions The bracket can also be found. Just from memory the GM version of the decal was usually yellow. The Trico washer kits sold thru parts houses had the red decal. The picrure of the jar installed on a truck firewall (probably about 1948) in the 1950 accy. inst. book shows the yellow decal with GM on it.....same for the large mouth for 1949 and up cars.
