I m seeking to identify a van in an old family photo. Based on some web searching, I believe this to be a Chevrolet Series 490 Delivery Van. I would like some help in confirming my identification and particularly in establishing what year this model represents. An image is available at - http://www.tomauer.net/truck.jpgI'd appreciate any help that VCCA members could offer! Thanks. Marty Auer

Hello Marty I don't think this is a Chevrolet at all. It's a Ford model T. Regards Arvid http://www.chevroletnorge.com

It could not be anything else than a T-Ford Delivery. Definitily not a 490, as in my brochure from 1918-20.
Did the company originally come from Wienna, Austria, selling kerosene lamps and mantle lamp equipment?

Thanks guys. I guess I came to the right place to ask someone that knew what was what. The family came from Switzerland and founded a cigar-making company after the Civil War. I was prejudiced toward Chevy's because the business never bought anything but Chevy's in my lifetime. Again, I appreciate your help.

So, the van is identified. A little story to your cigars: I mentioned the Auer lamps, as I knew that company from my work selling kerosene lamps. That company made the first Petromax-type (pressure) lamps, in Vienna and made it possible for The Mantle Lamp Company of America to make the famous Aladdin lamps. Carl Auer von Welsbach made many inventions, also the flint stones to millions of lighters, so why not sell the cigars too? For those special interested in old lightings(if you allow, Bill?): http://www.althofen.at/AvW-Museum/Englisch/biographie_e.htmhttp://www.survivalunlimited.com/lanternsstoves/aladdinlamphistory.htm
