I've heard and read that the '34 STD grills had every-other vertical bar painted black; can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm that on my '34 Standard every other vertical bar is black. Hope this helps, 99% of my car is original so I would assume it's true.

Both the 1934 Standards and Master had every other grille bar painted black.A good factory photo from 1934 will verify this. The 1934 Engineering Manual states "Alternate bars on this chrome plated grille are enameled black to creat a smart dignified apperrance"...did this mean the 1935 looked dumb? :)
The 1935 Standard used the same grille screen but did not have the black bars...easy way to spot a '35 Standard.....If you purchased a new grille for a 1934 Standard after 1935 you would get the unpainted grille.
