Hi All,
Can anyone identify this old Fisher Body Service Manual? I would like to know the year it was published and possibly what years it covers?
Below are some quick scans with a link showing the whole page. Please forgive the poor quality of the scans since this is a long way from the finished version for online.
Thanks! Cover page 5 page 31 page 70 page 99

Looks like 1929 from what I can see in the scanned photos. :)

On page 5 are the words, "Panels (Models prior to 1931)." I suspect this manual may have been published around 1933.
Anyone else with a good idea?
Cheers!

The 1932 was the first year without the exterior sun visor-the illustration you posted has an exterior visor therefore presumably 31 or prior-are you trying to date the vehicle pictured or the date the book was published?? Copies of earlier manuals are still being published(copied). I agree with JYD on '29.

Hi Steve,
Trying to date the book. I don't beleive this is a copied manual due to the bindings and the paper used. Since if makes reference to Models prior to 1931, I would think this manual was published after that year. I have not found any other references to a year anywhere in this manual.
I'll dig through it somemore and see what other photos I can post.
Cheers!

If the manual makes reference to models prior to "1931" then the manual was probably printed in late 1931 or in 1932. However, the illustration shown appears to be of a 1929 body. :)

I have this book also... and my year of highest interest is 1931. I've used it on a number of occasions to look something up. My guess has always been that it is good for approximatley 1928 - 1931. But a lot of of the information is generic, such as leading the seams... and uphostery techniques.
Just last week I hit this book up to see what it said about window regulators. It has an interesting range of subjects.
Probably most specific to 1929 and 1930, but a good generic guide to various repair techniques.

Keith, I was going to say on CT that it appears to be a 1932 publication. Is there no copyright date anywhere?

I have a copy which is identical to Keith's based on a close look at the pages he posted, except that the cover says "Fisher Boyd Service Manual -- 1926-1931 -- Closed Body Models". It has the "Body by Fisher" logo along with Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oakland, Viking?, Buick, Marquette, and Cadillac logos. It is a reprint done by "Crank'en Hope Publications", but is otherwise undated.
My bet would be a publication date in 1931 or 1932. If the cover on mine is correct, it covers models from 1926 to 1931.
Sure wish I had a similar manual for my 1930 phaeton. Does anybody know whether Chevrolet published a manual for the open cars that is analogous to the Fisher manual for the closed cars?
All the Best,
Chip.

Hi Bill, If your copy is just like mine, do you have the Index pages in the back? Mine are missing. If you do, can you scan and email them? I am in the proecess of scanning this manual for the Old Online Chevy Manuals site. Hi David, I have gone pretty well through this manual and have not found a copyright date or any date for that matter. I suspect it may have been on the missing Index pages mentioned above. Otherwise this is pretty weird for a Fisher Manual. Hey JYD, When I have the complete manual online, there will be other pics which may help with identifying the year of this manual. Figured Gene or Mack would have weighed in on this.... Gene, is this manual missing from your library? Cheers!

Why did the "horse" taking a dump show up in my post when I typed in J Y D?

Billy Boy Barker, the site administrator, has it set up so that every time the term "J.Y.D" is posted the "poopy" horse icon is activated and "J.Y.D" is changed to "JunkYard Dog". :cool2: :)

Keith, If you bring the book to the next San Jacinto Region meeting at Sudie's in League City, Monday, Feb. 5, one of the experts can give their ex spirt opinion. Or you can contact your Katy neighbor Bill Bradford to see if he can help.
All my original Fisher Manuals have a publication date on the inside flypage or title page or both. (At least I think so because two are not in their place on the shelf.) I would vote for a 1931 publication date. A supliment was used for 1932. I have one that is titled "How to repair FISHER BODIES" with a Chevy bow-tie logo under it that is dated February 1, 1930 First Edition. The pages are the same as the Fisher Body Repair Manuals (showing some non-Chevrolet bodies) but it was published by Chevrolet Motor Company, Division of General Motors.

Hi Chipper, The Fisher Manuals I have show a date, year or notice of copyright date. Have not found any of these in this particular manual. Did find the usual "Printed in U.S.A." I do know the Index pages are missing. Have about half the manual uploaded, http://chevy.tocmp.com/fisher/1931/31fbsm000.htm and still have to finish formatting the rest and make an index. Also, can you send me some more info about the meeting on February 5th. Cheers!
