Were any 31 tail lights painted black. I saw a pair on a coach today and asked why they were black and was told that on the least expensive models they were black. So not being sure I figured post it here.

I believe you will find that the black lights were used on commercial vehicles. I had a NOS Black light in the original Chevrolet box at one time. The black ones are steel and the chrome ones are brass.

On the passenger car models, including the coach, the tail light housings and rims were chrome plated. laugh laugh laugh laugh

On a 31 tail light bezel. Does the bezel have an open area in the center or does it have a bar across it with a Bowtie in it?
Thanks

The tail light rim has a open bow tie in the center for the embossed bow tie on the celluloid lens. laugh laugh laugh laugh

JYD, My lens has a Bowtie embossed in the center but it is made out of glass. Would this be correct for my 31?

No. The correct lens is ruby red celluloid (plastic), not glass. laugh laugh laugh
