Thanks to Gene I have the harness diagram so I can undo what the previous idiot did.
My question is how many poles did the original Electro Lock switch have, cause I'm sure mine was replaced. According to the harness diagram, 3 wires go to the Electro Lock switch, but 2 of them (the gas guage tank unit and the stop light wire) are both Yellow with one black marker, so would they share a pole? The third wire (yellow with 2 black markers)goes first to the light switch (generator cutoff) then the ammeter then to the ignition switch. So do I need a 2 pole or 3 pole? Hope this makes some sense to ya'll.

There should be three. One for the brake light switch-this one is hot only when the switch is on.One for the ammmeter wire.(carries the current to the switch) and one for the coil. The gas tank wire shares the terminal with the brake light switch. The head light switch wire is connected to the ammeter -Not on the side that the main feed wire is connect to the Ammeter.

Het Gene, while driving this evening my ignition switch shorted out or something, but I found myself on the side of the road dead. When turning the key (which I have to jiggle anyway)I got no reading from the ameter guage. So with a flaslight between my teeth I took apart the ignition switch, cleaned what I could, reassembled and got running. Obviously I want to replace the switch, the only one from the Filling Station is a universal switch No. RW356, will that work?
While messing around in the dark I unhooked the wires from two poles and removed the 2 small screws to get inside the switch, the shielded wire from the coil stayed with the pole plate that the 2 screws held to the back of the switch and I was unable to see how that shielded wire disconnected from the pole plate, can you enlighten me...again. I'm 99% certain my ignition switch is not original, the key has no markings to show it's a Chevy , it's just says ILCO (Independant lock Co.) with #NF77 on the other side. I just want to buy a switch I can connect the proper way from the diagram you sent me. Any suggestions?
