Hello,
I am looking for a 1925 oil pump. It is not the gear type pump. Are there any suppliers out there?
The pump I have works great, but it will not prime itself!!

I was under the impression that all '25 oil pumps were the gear type. What type do you have on our engine? Does it mount on the back of the generator? Or if not where?

Hello Ray:
I tried the e-mail post, and it will not bring up your address.
We are working on a 1925 one ton, and it may have the orginal motor, or it may not.
The genorator is on the driver side. The oil pump is in the pan, and drives off the bottom of the dis. The pump has no gears in it. It has reeds!!
The motor has a valve cover, but no side covers.
Motor numbers are T22229 61, and 345505.

Hi Joe,

From your description you have a 1927 engine. Your oil pump is in fact a "vane" type. There is no direct replacement with gears that would improve your situation. The problem with a gear driven pump is that it supplies TOO much oil. In the early 4-cylinder engine the ideal situation is mass FLOW of oil. Too much pressure sends the oil all over the place unless provisions are made during an engine rebuild.

The solution to your "failure to prime" is simple. Add 1 qt or less of oil over the full mark. Maintain that level. I think you will find the loss of prime is no longer a problem.

If you have the pan off, check to make sure that the line from the pump to the distributor valve is tight and sealed. I had the same problem on my 26, the tubing nuts were tight but not the tubing. After replacing the tubing, ferrows and nuts - and doing some back country grinding, I have not lost prime again. The "back country grinding" is taking the cape off of the pump. If there are wear marks on the cap, lay a fine sheet of wet and dry sand paper (320) on something very flat, (I used my cast iron tablesaw) grit up and carfully smooth the cap. You are trying to reduce the clearances. Also check to see if it has a gasket, if so, see if a thinner gasket can be used.

WHAT A DEAL!!!

After rasing the oil level on the intake tube, the pump is priming great!!

I will check all the fittings too make sure there good also.

We had to send number three rod off to get new babbit, new pan gasket, and fix some rust holes in the oil pan.
Then we should be back too running.
