Hello everyone and Merry Christmas. When I was restoring my 53 1/2 ton I rebuilt all my brakes. New Drums, new shoes, and new wheel cylinders except the right rear. I also rebuilt my master cylinder. When I drive my truck and it warms up, my back right wheel locks up when I apply pressure. If I push on them lightly they are all right but only if I have to make a quick stop it will lock up at the back right. I did not replace this cylinder because it looked ok when I rebuilt the brakes. Do you guys think that my wheel cylinder or my master cylinder is screwed up. Are there any tricks I should know about adjusting the rear brakes. If I take my truck for a long ride it seem that the brake peddle gets really stiff. Any sugestions and thanks...Oscar

Either the compensating port in the master cylinder is plugged up with rust or the master cylinder push rod is improperly adjusted.....keeping brakes "slightly" applied at all times.See shop manual for location of compenstaing port....should be able to "poke it out" with unit in vehicle.....Also see master cyl. push rod adjustment.

A faulty flex hose to the rear brakes can cause the problem you are experiencing if you did not change it at the time you worked on the brakes. A piece of rubber can act as a check valve and not allow the fluid to go back toward the master cylinder. Same can happen at the front brakes.

i have had the flex hose problem several times it comes loose internal acts like a check valve locking the wheel . also they can break down and cause a soft petal . need to be changed every so often . hope this helps

Aeroquip brake hoses are the answer, because they don´t expand or swell under pressure, leaving it all to the brake effort.

Mack: Around my neck of the woods there are Aeroquip shops who tKE YOUR HOSES AND MAKE THEM WITH THEIR MATERIAL. Must be the same in the US. Had them made for my car and it was 65 bucks for the three, with good results.

I purchased my flexible brake lines from NAPA, off the shelf for about 15 bucks each. Been a few years ago though  .

Recently had a similar problem with my '53 3/4 ton. Turned out to be a cracked brake drum, difficult to see and diagnose because I kept thinking it was in the hydraulics.
