Chevy registries don't list production numbers for the 47 Sedan Delivery. Would anyone know how many were produced?I own one of these, however mine is one of thirty that was stretched and converted to an ambulance/hearse combo by a company in California.

I've just looked thru several of the 'books' that I have and, as you say, no info on 47 sedan deliveries. Nothing on 41-48 sedan delivery production for that matter.
Your ambulance sure sounds interesting.....

Bill, Thanks for trying to help. I have heard a figure of 1500 produced but of course nothing to substanciate that. This anbulance was in service out in your part of the country, McCloud, California from 1947 till the 70s. Of course they were a logging company, and manufacturers of plywood. They owned the town and had their own hospital. Town was eventually sold to the residents. Ambulance was built in Oakland by a Chevy dealership there, Cochran and Celli Chevrolet under the name of Commercial Sales Co. It was number 18 of 30 they built that year. Don't know if they produced any during other years or not. It was stretched some 36 inches and I believe the current wheelbase is 152 inches. It was cut behind the doors and then suicide doors were added on each side to take up the difference in wheel base. The doors are all wood except for the metal skin. Must have found an old Buick craftsman to help with them. Has 40,000 miles on the odometer which I believe to be accurate by the overall condition of the car. Just thought you might be interested to know these things. Thanks again, Redbug

My sorce says that there were 20,303 made.Sounds like a reasonable figure to me.They were not what you would call rare.Sounds like an intresting vehicle.

1947 Sedan Delivery. 75 Years of Chevrolet by George H. Dammann does list the production for 1947 Chevrolet Stylemaster Sedan Deliveries at 20, 303 as ChevGene states. The book also says that this was a record production for Chevrolet. The book also shows a picture of a stretched 1947 sedan delivery that has been made into an ambulance. This information is found on page 180 in the book. On page 181 the book states that 299 automotive chassis or cowl/chassis were sold to independent manufacturers.
