Hi folks
I have a question
I got a radio from a gent he said it was for the 40 master deluxe that I have. The radio mounts to the firewall and the controlls mount to the steering colum. I can see the points that they mounted in. Did they realy have this type of setup for the radios? The normal area is covered up in the center of the dash.
Thank you ahead of time.

In 1940 Chevrolet offered three different radios. They all had the dial in the opening of the dash. Two had the speaker mounted behind the speaker grille and the "cheap" one was a one piece radio with the speaker on the bottom of the radio.

Hi,

It is obvious that you have the incorrect radio for your 1940 vehicle. 1939 was the last year for a radio that was operated by cables. (This was a special escutcheon for the 1939 that allowed the installation of the 1938 series of radios).

Remove the cover from the radio you have, and if you can find the Model number on a paper glued to the inside of the radio, post it here and I will identify it for you.

I took the cover off it has 6 tubes and a Motorola tag with the pat numbers and a date of Feb 8, 1935 on the bottom of the paper tag it has Galvin Mfg. Corp patent 2,021,676 Nov 19,1935
I also talked to the old owner of the car he said it had this type of radio in it. He took it out to have it repaired but never did.

That would be an after market "fits all" radio.
