Since I would prefer to put tranny fluid into my '57 cold instead of waiting for her to heat up; could someone tell me about how much fluid is burped out?

Yes, run the engine for a few minutes and check the fluid with the dip stick.Seeing the fluid will still be cold fill only to the ADD mark.
The PG will not burp if when first starting the engine after a long period of non-use you run the engine for a few minutes (to refill the sump) brfore shutting it off.....or just jump in and start driving right away.The burping only occurs when you run it for a minute and shut it off right away.The fluid should be uo NEAR the full mark only when the dip stick is too hot to touch.Not necessary to have on the full mark and keeping it on the ADD line when hot is OK....you will know when the fluid is too low as the tranny will slip on right turns (like go into neutral for a seconed)..The fluid level will be almost to the tip of the stick before this happens.The lower that you maintain the (safe) level the less tendency it will have to leak or burp.

1950-54 PG's will not fill the sump when running in the PARK position as the lubrication//cooling flow of fluid it cut off when in PARK.....the engine should not be run while in PARK on these models.

Are any components of the 1957 Chevrolet Powerglide subject to damage by driving the car when the transmission fluid level is low?

Let's say the transmission fluid level is low to the extent that the car won't move. Does running the engine while the selector is in the DRIVE position do damage to the transmission? TIA.

Yes, it would damage the transmission.If the fluid is too low to engage drive or reverse its too low to run in neutral.Usually if you have a drop on the end of the stick its OK to run but too low to drive on the road.With a drop on the end of the stick mine will go down the raod OK but the transmission will slip when making a right turn because the fluid moves away from the pick-up screen.
Its necessary to have enough fluid picked up thru the screen to lubricate the internal parts of the PG.....so add a little if necessary.
